PRIVACY POLICY

WHAT WE
KNOW ABOUT YOU.

Almost nothing — and this page says exactly what that means. Last updated 24 AUGUST 2026.

01 / THE SHORT VERSION

Rovyl is a desktop app that runs on your machine. It has no analytics, no telemetry, no advertising and no tracking of any kind. It never records which apps you launch, what you type, or what is on your screen.

The only personal data that leaves your computer is what your licence needs in order to work: who you are, and which machines you activated it on. Everything else — your shortcuts, your layout, your settings — stays on disk and is never uploaded.

02 / LICENCE DATA

Activating Rovyl is the one moment the app talks to our server. It sends the following, and we store it:

Your email address
Either from the licence you bought, or from Google sign-in if you activate that way. It is how a licence is tied to a person, and how a lost key is recovered.
Your name and avatar
Only when you sign in with Google, which returns them alongside the sign-in token. They are used to show who is signed in, and nothing else.
A device fingerprint
A one-way hash of the Windows MachineGuid. The raw value never leaves your computer, and the hash cannot be turned back into it. It exists so one licence can cover three devices, and so that reinstalling Windows does not cost you a slot.
A device name
Your computer's hostname and its Windows version, so the three activated devices are distinguishable when you want to release one.

That is the entire list. There is no field for anything else, because the database has no column for anything else.

03 / PAYMENT

Rovyl is sold through the Microsoft Store. Microsoft handles the entire transaction, so no payment data reaches us at all — not your card, not your billing address, not your name. That version of the app unlocks on install and never asks for a licence key.

04 / WHAT STAYS ON YOUR COMPUTER

Rovyl has to know what is installed on your machine in order to be a launcher. All of that work happens locally, and none of it is transmitted.

Your installed applications
Found by scanning the Start Menu so the wheel can offer them. The list is written to your own disk and read by nothing but Rovyl.
Icons
Extracted from the executables already on your machine, or fetched for websites you add — see the third parties below.
Your shortcuts, layout and settings
Everything you configure, including workspaces and per-app options.
Recent projects
For editors that expose one, Rovyl reads the editor's own recent-files list to offer it in the wheel. It stays local.
A diagnostic log
Plain text, in your home folder, capped at two rotations of 2 MB. It records what the app did, not what you did. It is never uploaded; if you send one for support, you send it deliberately.

All of this lives in your Windows user profile. Uninstalling Rovyl and choosing to remove its data deletes every bit of it.

05 / THIRD PARTIES THE APP CONTACTS

Rovyl makes no background connections beyond these, and most of them happen only if you turn the feature on.

Google
Only if you choose Google sign-in. Google receives the sign-in request and returns your name, email and avatar. Their own privacy policy governs their side of it.
Weather (wttr.in)
Only if you enable the weather display. It receives the location you typed into settings — a city name you chose. Rovyl does not read your device location and holds no location permission.
Icon services (DuckDuckGo, ui-avatars, unavatar)
When you add a website to the wheel, its domain is sent to an icon service to fetch a favicon. When an avatar is shown, your name or email may be used to generate one. Only that domain or that name is sent — never your list of shortcuts.
GitHub
The version installed from our website checks GitHub for updates, so GitHub sees your IP address, as it would for any download. The Microsoft Store version does not do this at all — the Store handles its own updates.

06 / THE WEBSITE

rovyl-red.vercel.app uses Vercel Analytics, which counts page views without cookies and without building a profile of you across other sites.

The site itself collects nothing else. Buying happens on the Microsoft Store, so no form here asks for your name, your email or any payment detail.

07 / YOUR DATA, YOUR CALL

You can release a device from inside the app at any time, under Settings. That removes the device's activation record from our database.

Ask what we hold
Email rovylapp@gmail.com and you get the full record tied to your licence.
Ask us to delete it
Same address. We delete the licence record and its activations. Note that this also ends the licence, because the licence is the record.
Correct it
If the email on your licence is wrong, we will change it.

Licence and purchase records are kept for as long as the licence is valid, and after that only for as long as tax and accounting law requires proof of a sale to be kept.

08 / CHILDREN

Rovyl is a productivity tool for general audiences and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13.

09 / CHANGES AND CONTACT

If this policy changes in a way that affects what we collect, the date at the top of this page changes with it, and the new version is published here before it takes effect.

The person responsible for this app and for this policy is Henry Cauan. Questions, requests and complaints all go to rovylapp@gmail.com.
